Mark & Mary Foster Conklin Return to Vitello's - May 4th
MARK WINKLER AND
MARY FOSTER CONKLIN
‘Smart, swinging and just a little bit dangerous”
'"When a pair of beyond-definition singers get together for a vocal jam session, expect an unusually enlightening evening of song. Both Winkler and Conklin move with deceptively casual ease from cabaret to standards to jazz. Toss in Winkler's always well-crafted originals and Conklin's convincing storytelling qualities, and a single set may well be too short."
- Don Heckman, Los Angeles Times"If anyone tells you that there is a hipper gig than the pairing of Jazz vocalists Mark Winkler and Mary Foster Conklin, don't you believe it." - Joe Lang, Jersey Jazz
"It is such a joy to experience two pros in action! Mary & Mark were completely satisfying and extraordinarily entertaining."
- Susan Frances, Nightlife Exchange
Mark and Mary will once again joined forces for an evening of the old and new. Mark sang tunes from his CD Sweet Spot which was just named as one of the top 5 Jazz Vocal CDs of the Year by Jazz Times Magazine, as well as lots of new songs, and Mary uncovered the "sweet spot" in a great American songbook, a gem or two at a time… there were also songs byBobby Troup and Matt Dennis tune in the mix as well.
These two met over their love of Bobby Troup and Matt Dennis and have been singing together in New York and Los Angeles for the last few years. Mary being a true New Yorker is loathe to leave the chill of Manhattan, so her Los Angeles visits are always special occasions.
They were joined by the wonderful Peter Smith on piano, Tim Emmons on bass and Peter Buck on Drums.
Mark Winkler Trio Returns for Jazz At The Merc
On Thursday, March 15th, 2012 the Mark Winkler Trio returned for another evening of great jazz to Temecula in the city's intimate concert space known as "The Merc". The Mercantile, located at 42051 Main Street, is one of Temecula's original buildings and has been beautifully restored. The evening's host was Sherry Williams. A great crowd came out to enjoy a night of great jazz!
Mark looks forward to his next visit at "The Merc!

Double CD Release Party - NY & LA!
Join Mark Winkler for one or both of the release parties for his new CD SWEET SPOT. Lots of crowd favorites like Somewhere in Brazil and Sweet Spot are on the new disc, as well as Mark’s renditions of such standards as But Not For Me and On Broadway—and if the evening isn’t stellar enough, he will be joined by a very special guest:
Phil Swann (his co writer on Play It Cool) who will be having a CD release party for his new album Stale Scotch and Cheap Cigars. Phil’s CD is a master class in songwriting and late night saloon singing, featuring the cream of musicians and 10 Swann songs that sound like extra pages from the Great American Songbook.
And if that isn't enough — this night is also a celebration for their jazz film noir musical Play It Cool which opens in New York City on September 14th. Both Mark and Phillip have recorded songs from Play It Cool on their new CDs — so a special evening should be had by all.
In Los Angeles they'll be joined by the Eli Brueggemann Quartet — and some surprise guests . . . and in New York City Mark will be backed by the Jeb Patton Quartet.

Mark Winkler & Dolores Scozzesi
By mixing the rich bouquet of Dolores' chilled cabernet with the fizz of Winkler's Peach Snapple (diet, if you please) they created a special evening of swing and high spirits! Dolores celebrated the release of her new Rhombus CD "A Special Taste" (produced by Mr. Winkler) and Mark performed lots of favorites like "Hungry Man" and "Till I Get It Right" - while mixing in a jigger or two of new material like "On Broadway" and "Like Young". There were duets, surprises - and all the good times that happen when two friends (backed by the Stuart Elster Quartet) combined forces on Friday, December 3rd, 2010 at the M-Bar in Hollywood.
IRIDIUM ENCORE A
SUCCESS FOR WINKLERMark Winkler returned to The Iridium Jazz Club in New York City to perform 2 shows with Terese Genecco & Her Little Big Band on July 27th, 2010. Mark did a full set with a mix of his tunes and some swingin' standards backed by Terese's smokin' horn section....and Terese also joined him for some duets. Mark hopes this will be a semi-regular gig for him!
WEST COAST COOL IS BREEZIN' YOUR WAY!

Winkler Reveals The Secrets To His Success On Saturday, October 10th, 2009 Cathy Segal Garcia's "The Vocal Workshop Network" presented jazz artist/producer/songwriter Mark Winkler in a workshop entitled, "How To Make Your Own Jazz CD (and not go Broke) - A Workshop for Singers" at the Granada Hills home studio of Cathy Segal Garcia.
Mark shared the following information about the workshop: "As I've been teaching my songwriting classes and talking with singers lately, I've been struck with how little the artists I've met know about making a CD. Due to the advances in recording technology, everybody can make a CD today - but as I've learned not everybody can make one that will satisfy their objectives and more importantly get them noticed. So, I've hatched the idea for this workshop.
I've produced or co-produced over 15 CDs, and that experience has taught me what works and what doesn't, what to spend your hard earned money on and what to say "no" to. Some of what I've learned is quite surprising. My one day workshop covers everything from song selection and choosing the correct recording studio to hiring the right musicians, from how many tunes to record to mixing the record and then I'll tell you how to distribute and promote your CD. These are all things I've learned the hard way.
I promise I'll get to the nitty gritty. I'll give you costs, studios, time estimates and short cuts - no bull----. I have a plan to take you from the very beginning of CD production to the end. Just bring your questions, a pen and I promise a fun yet educational afternoon."
Thanks to all who attended!
Mark Shakes Things Up! On Saturday, September 12, 2009 Mark sang for the very first time at the very hip, very cool Cafe Metropole (did we mention that the food was delicious!). He was joined by the fantastic pianist Eli Brueggemann, with Kristin Korb (who's exploding as a singer and bassist - check out her new CD) and the cookin' drummer Steve Barnes.
Mark added 2 cuts from his new CD "Til I Get It Right" to the show - they are "Spring is Where You Are" and "Evolution" In addition to music from the new CD , Mark sang and swung some great standards and new songs like Steve Allen's "This Could Be The Start of Something Big". This was a date to remember.
It Must Have Been Moonglow!
On Sunday, August 2, 2009 Mark was the on-air guest of Barry Gaston on his regular Sunday night show "Moonglow" on KMUW - Wichita Public Radio. The two chatted about jazz, songs and lyric writing - and all the details behind Mark's new CD "Til I Get It Right" from which several cuts were played.
